1. What are Laminated Neoprene Elastomeric Bridge bearings?
Neoprene bridge bearings - plain or laminated - elastomeric bearings are much easier to install in a bridge than compared to other types of bearing used and elastomeric bearings require nil maintenance. Unlike most other elastomer, Neoprene rubber under-goes no marked stiffening at low temperature when the thermal contraction of the bridge deck is at maximum. Such stiffening could be deleterious to bearing and / or structure. Correctly-designed and suitably-compounded laminated Neoprene Rubber bridge bearings can be confidently expected to function efficiently for at least a decade even at different high variances of temperature.
2. Explain further on advantages of Neoprene Elastomeric bearings against block of rubber.
As efficient bearing plates for pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete or steel beams in bridges and buildings, Neoprene Pads - plain and laminated - manufactured by us permits a smooth and uniform transfer of load from the beam to the substructure and allow beam rotation at the bearing due to deflect ion of the beam under load. They further allow lateral and longitudinal movement of the beam caused by thermal forces. Neoprene Pads have no movable parts and thermal expansion and contraction are absorbed by the pad's ability to give and take in shear. There is no sliding motion between pad and beam or between pad and abutment.
3. Explain on neoprene bridge bearing specifications to AASHTO and other specifications.
The material specifications for the elastomeric bearing shall meet all the current requirements of AASHTOM M 251.Bearing pads and elastomeric bearings will comply with Articles 18.2.3 through 18.2.6 of Section 18, Bearing Devices, Division II, Construction, of the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges. Bearing pads and laminated bearings shall be of the compound known as neoprene and shall be cast in molds under pressure and heat. A plain elastomeric bearing pad and steel load distribution plate combination shall be classified as a laminated elastomeric bearing. Test specimens shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3182 or D 3183. Where test specimens are cut from the finished product, a 20 percent variation from the original physical properties is allowed.
4. Explain on Manufacturing procedure - Compression moulding:
Elastomeric bearings shall be composed of multiple laminates of elastomeric material separated by steel reinforcing. The overall size of the bearing, the number of laminate and thickness of laminates are designed in accordance to the requirement of Load to be Transferred. Bearings having steel plates as reinforcement shall be cast/compression moulded/vulcanized as a single unit in a mould under pressure and heat.
5. Explain on Internal Laminates or MS Shim?
Internal plates shall be ASTM A 36/A 36M or A 570/A 570M, Grade 36 or Grade 40. All plates shall be deburred. The internal plates shall not be less than 1.88 mm (0.074 inch) thick.The steel plates separating the elastomeric layers will be completely bonded by vulcanization to the elastomeric material on all surfaces using special metal to rubber bonding adhesive. All external load bearing steel plate(s) if present, shall be factory vulcanized to the elastomeric bearings during the primary molding process.
6. What is Bearing Acceptance Tests?
Acceptance Tests of the pads and bearings shall be according to Level I acceptance criteria of Article 18.2.5. This testing shall be included in the price bid for the bearings.
7. Do you manufacture Mechanical Bridge Bearings or Pot Bearings?
Yes, Mechanical bearings are also manufactured and supplied by us and further investments for plant up-gradation is under way.Please send us your requirement for Pot Bearings
8. Do you carry out Testing of Neoprene Bridge Bearings?
In house Quick Production Test of all bearings shall be done at Clients/Representative presence. Tests confirming to AASHTO specification in accordance with Acceptance Testing on either Level I or Level II or Short/Long-Duration Compression Test up to 3400 kN with horizontal shear up to 180kN can be carried out in our facility.
9. Which is the Polymer( rubber) specified in AASHTO Specification?
Neoprene or Polychloroprene Rubber Compounds are used where Laminated Elastomeric bearings are designed, manufactured and tested in accordance to requirements with AASHTO M 251 .
10. Which is the Polymer( rubber) specified in BS 5400?
Natural Rubber Compounds are used where Laminated Elastomeric bearings are designed, manufactured and tested in accordance to requirements with BS 5400 Part 9.

Internal Lamination construction of Elastomeric Bearings are designed based on required Vertical Load /Lateral Shear, keeping Shear Modules value of rubber compound as required by Client / Bearing designer. Only through results obtained from Stress Strain Tests and graph plotted will prove that bearing manufactured meets the required values for Lateral Shear under vertical load. We are the only manufacturer in Middle East who has in-house facility to carry out these tests and confirm that Laminated Bearings manufactured by us meets the design parameters.
23.Can these tests be witnessed by Client.
Clients / Consultants are welcomed to witness these tests and see our facility to test Laminated Bearings up to 3400 kN Vertical Load and Lateral Shear Load of 180 kN and a lateral movement of 100 mm.

High Damping Rubber Bearing (HDRB)
As an alternative to the lead rubber bearing,we offer high damping rubber bearing (HDRB) which is ideal for seismic isolation with one device - supporting the structure, providing the elastic restoring force and also the required amount of damping up to a maximum of 10-15% of critical. Moderate damping is achieved with this type of the bearing.
The HDRB isolation bearings are vertically stiff, capable of supporting vertical gravity loads, while being laterally flexible, capable of allowing large horizontal displacements. In effect, the ground is allowed to move back and forth under a base isolated during an earthquake, while leaving the building to remain "stationary." By means of its flexibility and energy absorption capability, with HDRB rubber bearings isolation system partially reflects and partially absorbs some of the earthquake input energy before this energy can be transmitted to the structure. The net effect is a reduction of energy dissipation demand on the structural system, resulting in an increase in its survisability.
Significantly reductions of structural and non-structural damage may be achieved through the use of HDRB rubber bearings seismic isolation. Reduction in elastic-force reductions by factors of 5- to 10- are possible. Expressed in simple terms with regard to building performance, this is roughly equivalent to a reduction of a Richter-magnitude-8 event to an event in the 5-to-6 magnitude range. Clearly, this is a very significant reduction. These potential benefits are greatest for stiff structures fixed rigidly to the ground, such as low- and medium-rise buildings, nuclear power plants, bridges and many types of equipment. Some of the heady duty bearings supplied by us and installed in structures in Pakistan has helped to minimize damages to the structure as will as human life.

Ptfe sliding bearings.
We offer both ptfe (Teflon) sliding pads as well as sliding bearings. Ptfe Sliding bearing pads can be used for lower loads and Sliding Bearings ( with laminated bearing )for higher loads. Both Sliding bearings as well as sliding bearing pads are supplied with appropriate thickness SS 316 L plates with mild steel backing plates.
Ptfe sliding bearings can be manufactured both in rectangular and disc type. Modern day construction requires large span movements for buildings and www.pretread.com has the solution for you. Especially in constructing Shopping Malls where spans are very wide and movements are over 100 mm movements, effective and economical solution is to use our ptfe sliding bearing combination with laminated neoprene elastomeric bearing.
ARP-NEOSLIDEPAD
Building structural design has taken a considerable change over the last decade. The sizes of spans have grown bigger, difference of internal and external temperature has become greater and global warming has changed climatic changes. These factors have exerted great demand on elastomeric bearing design and requirements. New polymer types and combinations with Stainless Steel have paved way for new designs. Thus we offer a combination of elastomeric bearing with ptfe known as ARP-NEOSLIDEPAD for PTFE sliding bearing requirements.
ARP-NEOSLIDEPAD - (PTFE Sliding bearing system with Stainless Steel Top and Neoprene Protective Seal) are specially designed, manufactured and assembled with a combination of polyamide or steel reinforced neoprene bearing pad with PTFE top and a SS 316 L plate sliding over top as a whole unit protected with a soft neoprene seal.
Lead Rubber Bearings LRB
A lead rubber bearing is a bigger laminated bearing manufactured from layers of rubber, sandwiches together with layers of steel, except for that in middle of bearing there will be a solid lead "plug." Top and bottom of the bearing is fitted with steel plates, which are used to attach bearing to building through its foundation.
These lead rubber bearings are designed in such a way that bearing is very stiff and strong in vertical direction, but flexible in horizontal direction. Lead, inserted as center core of bearing dissipates the energy of earthquake while the rubber, reinforced with steel plates, provides stability, supports structure and isolates vibrations.

As part of our expansion in rubber products manufacturing, we offer Pre-cure Tread Rubber manufactured from our facility in SAIF-Zone Sharjah Air Port Free Zone, in United Arab Emirates, which is first of its kind in Middle East.

ur new additional bearing testing facility
In house Quick Production Test of all bearings shall be done at Clients/Representative presence. We are equipped with facility to carry out tests confirming to AASHTO specification in accordance with Acceptance Testing on either Level I or Level II as well as Short/Long-Duration Compression Test. Vertical load up to 4200 kN with horizontal shear up to 400kN and movement up to 100 mm can be carried out in our exclusive lamianted bearing testing facility.
Following pictures shows testing being carried out on a lamainted Bridge Bearing of size 400x200x52 mm manufactured by us.

Basic elements of a Pot Bearing
The basic elements of a Pot Bearing consists of a shallow cylinder, known as pot, an elastomeric pad known as disc, a single or set of sealing rings, piston and sliding surfaces. Masonry plates and base plates are common for the installation of pot bearings, as they allow attachment of the bearings and increase the support area on the pier and abutment. Pot bearings are fixed against all translation unless they are used with a ptfe sliding surface.
Pot and Piston
The pot bearings are always manufactured from Structural Carbon steel and pistons from Stainless Steel. The sealing rings are brass rings which being the most critical component of a pot bearings for its long term services which are proprietary system followed by us.
Elastomeric Disc
In Pot bearings vertical load is carried through piston of pot bearing and is resisted by compressive stress in elastomeric pad. The pad is deformable but almost incompressible and is often idealized as be having hydrostatically but in practical exerts shear stiffness.
External Protective Rubber Dust Seals
We offer proprietary external dust proof protective seals on all of our pot bearings, resisting entry of debris like dirt, water, etc which can damage elastomeric pad and brass sealing rings, providing substantial benefits.
Sliding surfaces
The sliding surfaces in all our pot bearings will be dimpled ptfe - teflon to Stainless Steel.

Advantages of Pot bearings
Pot bearings are usually recommended when bearing rotations are large, compact designs and long term servesability are required.

Smaller in size compared to elastomeric bearings.
Longer maintenance time.
Pot bearings can sustain many cycles of very small and large rotations.
Economical repair as replacement of elastomer disc only.
Does not get effected by external atmospheric correction.

We also offer additional fixtures for installation of pot bearings like temporary bearings, ptfe sliding bearings, studs, base plates, masonry plates with welded studs etc and will be happy to receive your complete requirements.
